Golden headed west

AUBURN | Auburn assistant coach Todd Golden is headed to the West Coast.

Golden has accepted an assistant coaching position at San Francisco under the recently hired Kyle Smith, a source confirmed to AuburnSports.com

Golden played under Smith when he was an assistant at St. Mary’s and was an assistant under him when he was the head coach at Columbia.

Smith was hired by San Francisco three weeks ago.

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Golden joined Auburn’s staff as the director of basketball operations in 2014 before being promoted to an assistant coach last year.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl is expected to immediately begin a search for Golden’s replacement.
