Auburn managed just four hits in a 6-2 loss at Alabama in the opening game of the series Friday.

Auburn never really got going Friday night in Tuscaloosa.

The Tigers managed just four hits, struck out 14 times and starter Cole Lipscomb lasted just two innings as Alabama cruised to a 6-2 win at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The loss drops Auburn to 20-25 overall and 7-15 in the SEC while Alabama improves to 26-20 and 11-11.

The Tide never trailed scoring three runs in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Alabama starter Geoffrey Bramblett (4-3) earned the win holding Auburn to two runs, one earned, on three hits in 5.2 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Matt Foster held Auburn to a hit over the final 3.1 innings to earn the save, striking out seven. The 14 total strikeouts are a season-high for Auburn.

“I thought the difference in the game was Foster and his fastball,” Auburn coach Butch Thompson said. “We kind of take pride in being able to stay on and be competitive against anybody’s fastball. He had a good one tonight.”

Auburn reliever Gabe Klobosits (2-5) took the loss. He allowed three runs without recording an out in the third inning. Andrew Mitchell gave up three runs in 4.1 innings and Daniel Sprinkle threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

Lipscomb was pulled before the start of the third due to fatigue and tightness in his throwing arm. He allowed two hits and walked two but didn’t give up a run.

“We’ll check on him,” Thompson said. “He went into the eighth inning against Ole Miss, threw a complete game last week. We wanted him to go back out there but when we started talking about being a little tight with the fastball we moved on.”

Auburn’s lone runs came in the fifth. Niko Buentello led off the inning with a double and came around to score on a double by Jackson Burgreen, who scored on a throwing error by shortstop Daniel Cucjen.

The series continues Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
