Aggies take game one

No. 3 Texas A&M scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat Auburn 12-8 in the first game of a doubleheader.

AUBURN | No. 3 Texas A&M jumped on Auburn for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to pull away with a 12-8 win over Auburn in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday at Plainsman Park.

The loss drops Auburn to 9-9 overall and 0-1 in the SEC while the Aggies improve to 17-1 and 1-0.

Marc Frazier (0-2) took the loss for Auburn allowing four runs, three earned, in 2.2 innings. He held TAMU scoreless for 2.1 innings before the Aggies jumped on him for four runs in the ninth inning on three hits, a walk, two stolen bases and an error.

Texas A&M jumped out to 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth but Auburn responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out on a walk, single and error. Auburn hit four consecutive singles off TAMU starter Jace Vines with Kyler Deese, Anfernee Grier and Joshua Palacios driving in one and Jordan Ebert driving in two.

The Aggies then went back on top 8-6 with three runs in the sixth but Auburn tied it up with a run in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Niko Buentello and a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Cody Nulph.

Palacios finished 4 of 4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Daniel Robert and Deese had two hits apiece for the Tigers.

Auburn starter Justin Camp allowed seven runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings. Ben Braymer gave up a run on two hits in 0.2 innings before turning it over to Frazier in the sixth.

J.B. Moss was 3 of 4 with three RBI and Nick Choruby 4 of 5 with two RBI for Texas A&M. Mark Ecker (2-0) earned the win holding Auburn to just one hit over the final 3.0 innings.

Auburn and Texas A&M will play game two of the doubleheader at 5:25 p.m. CT. The series will conclude Sunday at 1 p.m.
